John Ull
John Lill rose to international prominence when he won the Moscow International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1970, although he almost did not bother to enter at all.
Today he talks to Joan Bakewell about his experiences in Russia and the significance of the win. Having been a member of several competition juries since, he also discusses the relevance of competitions in music.
