MEDICAL DRAMA Casualty 8.50pm BBC1
It's extraordinary how, in just one episode of Casualty, there can be scenes that are so affecting they can move you to tears, immediately followed by ones that make you snort in disbelief.
Tonight, for instance, Comfort has to identify her husband Fin's dead body and the howl of grief she emits at the sight of him is enough to make you sick with sympathy. But moments later we're drawn into a love triangle story where the "wronged" party not only behaves in an unbelievably reasonable manner towards his roving fiancee but then, having been told by daft new doctor Guppy that everything's going to be OK, accepts the news that one of his relatives may be brain dead and equally calmly agrees to organ donation.
He's obviously had a heart bypass operation to remove his emotions, but then so have the other corners of the love triangle, all more concerned with who did what to whom than with the poor soul attached to the ventilator.
On top of this, Luke's sharing his home with the widow of a man he "killed" some episodes back (just let the guilt go, Luke) and that manipulative minx Ellen has a proposition for Abs. He's such an affable chap he'll probably say yes just to be nice. (Jane Rackham)
