Schutz in Italy

on BBC Radio 3

Schutz made two journeys to Italy, the first in 1609 and the second in 1628. During the intervening period the musical climate had changed, and in this second of his two talks Denis Arnold, Professor of Music in the University of Nottingham, discusses the Impact that the music of Monteverdi and his successors had on the great German master, the tercentenary of whose death falls this year.
