New Zealand, 1942. When 16-year-old Daisy becomes pregnant, her boyfriend Ed decides to do the decent thing and marry her. When Ed is called up by the army, he and Daisy are separated and when Ed is told that he is being sent overseas, he goes absent without leave to join his wife.
