Tim Grundy

on BBC Radio 2

with the Radio 2 Arts Programme, celebrating the centenary of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Opened in May 1894, the building of the Canal did much to shape the landscape through which it passed, and the lives of the people who lived and worked on it. The artist Harold Riley travels from its beginnings at Eastham, to the heart of the docks at Salford Quays, where the local community is preparing its play Bringing the Sea to Salford.
Plus features on the floating theatre company Walk the Plank, a visit to Ellesmere Port Boat Museum, and music by Bernard Wrigley.
