Dr. Clark Kerr , the President of the University of California since 1958, was dismissed from his post by the University Regents in January this year, after a stormy meeting of the Regent at Berkeley. The newly - elected Republican Governor of California, Ronald Reagan , who is ex-officio a Regent, was one of those who voted for Kerr's dismissal.
