2: Mozart in Italy (1769- 71).
Leopold Mozart was eager to take his 13-year-old son to Italy, which during the 18th century was such an important centre of musical activity, especially in the world of opera. The first Italian journey was to result in many successes for Mozart, including the papal Order of the Golden Spur, his first string quartet, and a commission for an opera seria - Mitridate, Re di Ponto.
