Jephtha
Piers Burton-Page presents
Katie Mitchell 's new production for Welsh National Opera of Handel's Jephtha.
Based on the Old Testament storyfrom the Book of Judges, it is a heady mix of religion, politics and war. Jephtha rashly strikes a bargain with Jehovah to sacrifice the first living thing he sees if he returns home victorious afterthe battle against the Ammonites, with disastrous consequences for his own family.
