on BBC Radio 3

A series of four documentaries re-assessing the Welfare State.

The debate about welfare has traditionally been in terms of the market versus the state, but those stark alternatives are increasingly being questioned.
Professor A.H. Halsey, Director of Social and Administrative Studies at the University of Oxford, examines the political decisions about health care organisation and argues the advantages and disadvantages of the British system with, among others, Professor Rudolph Klein, University of Bath; Bernard Bruhnes, former adviser to President Mitterrand's government and Dr Peter Draper, Guy's Hospital.
