Weber left the employment of the Duke of Stuttgart under a cloud, having been charged with embezzlement and stealing the royal silverware. During his imprisonment he was allowed to continue to write music. Eventually he and his fatherwere banished from Wurttemburg, and they spent two months in Mannheim before Carl travelled on to Darmstadt to resume his music studies with his former teacher and mentor Abbe Vogler.
