An appreciation by Professor E. N. da C. Andrade , F.R.S ., of Planck's scientific work and its influence on modem physical science and philosophy
Max Planck. the distinguished German physicist who died at Gottlngen on October 4, achieved universal fame as the originator of the Quantum Theory, which dominates modern physics and has influenced all branches of science. He showed that the way in which radiations are sent out and absorbed by atoms could not be explained by the laws of physics as- known fltty years ago. and worked out fundamental new relationships in terms of a small unit known as Planck's Constant.
Planck's work laid the foundations of the modern theory of atomic processes, am initiated the revolution in scientific thought which has taken place during the last half-century
