George Buchanan - Not for Burning

on BBC Radio 3

George Buchanan was the greatest poet and writer of his day in Europe, the shocking political thinker who helped bring down Mary Queen of Scots, the religious dissident who barely escaped the inquisition. If he is almost completely forgotten now it is because he wrote in Latin, the language of educated Europe. Robert Crawford, using his own translations of Buchanan's poetry, introduces us to Scotland's hot-tempered Renaissance genius. Producer Louise Yeoman
