Here at last: The Simpsons bring their unusual family values to BBCTV
The Simpsons 5.30pm BBC1 It's been a long time coming but America's top cartoon family have finally brought their own show to terrestrial television.
As with all the best cartoons, Matt Groening's creation has an adult and sometimes subversive slant: it is spattered with visual gags (each episode's intro is slightly different), in-jokes, sociological references and celebrity guests. It's also very funny.
Tonight's episode makes a perfect introduction to this dysfunctional family. The annual company picnic makes father Homer realise that his brood is not the "nice, normal family" he so wants them to be: he pawns the TV to pay for group therapy. The electric-shock treatment is one of the classic Simpson moments.
