The Living Isles
Third in a ten-part series exploring the natural history of the British Isles.
Beneath the Greenwood
Left to itself, the British landscape would be covered by trees - almost to the top of every mountain. Most of our native wildlife from bluebells to badgers, blackbirds and buzzards, once flourished in an ancient wild wood that cloaked the land in green. Today the fragments that survive celebrate a long chapter in our islands' natural history.
