Mr. W. Percival Westell: Partridges and Their Ways

on 6ST Stoke

View in Radio Times

One of the most interesting of the birds which frequent our countryside is the partridge. There are two varieties common in this country - the grey and the red-legged. The latter was introduced into England by a British peer - the Marquis of Hertford - in the 18th century. As a table delicacy the partridge is unique and its habits are well worthy of study by the Nature lover. At this time of the year, too, the bird is causing great excitement in the hearts of countless sportsmen - for partridge-shooting begins in September! Nature lovers, epicures and sportsmen, therefore, should all make a point of hearing Mr. W. Percival Westell's interesting and topical talk this evening.
