Whatever Happened to the Energy Crisis?
Energy prices have risen remorselessly for the past ten years. Now, for the first time, they are falling. The recession, combined with conservation measures and a switch to alternative sources, have all brought about a dramatic slump in the demand for oil. Are we about to enter a new era of cheaper and more abundant energy; or is it merely an interlude in a story of ever spiralling energy costs? What happens when the recession ends? Would a return to growth spark off anew energy crisis?
