Rachmaninov in New York. In the first of six interval features tracing the Russian diaspora over the last 150 years, David Cannata charts Rachmaninov's exile in the United States. Leaving Russia for the last time at the outbreak of the Revolution in 1917, Rachmaninov settled in New York. But far from turning his back on the past, he set about re-creating the atmosphere of his former home.
