Beyond the Tunnel of History
1: The Time Traveller
What are the events and images from history that can help guide us towards the new Europe that beckons?
The poet Jacques Darras journeys back in time, and beyond his native France, to the Grand-
Place, or Grote Markt , in Brussels, a great city square whose noble architecture hints at the almost democratic aspirations of its ancient power brokers and which today is the very embodiment of the multi-cultural Europe that awaits us in 1992 and beyond.
