ONE of the present-day com" posers whom London may claim as a citizen by birth as well as education, Alan Bush has been for some years a pupil for composition with John Ireland, to whose inspiring teaching he attributes a very largo share of the success ho has already won. Although his music hasalready more than once been broadcast, these pieces are now being played, for the first time in England. They were played in Berlin last November.
The several movements arc quite short and in no way difficult to follow, and though the five movements are independent of one another in their themes and melodies, they are intended to be complementary in effect and to form something of a coherent whole.
