Heart of the Matter: Ape Related

Later this month the New Zealand government will decide whether to introduce legislation which gives human rights to chimps and apes, a move that would further encourage a group of scientists, lawyers and philosophers who want the international community to take similar action. Joan Bakewell asks whether such a policy would make a mockery of the concept of human rights.
