Nirad Chaudhuri's Autobiography of an Unknown Indian created a considerable stir when it was published in Britain in 1951. In 1955 the Overseas Services of the BBC invited him to visit England for the first time to see how far the country corresponded to the idea of it that he had gained from literature.
The part of Nirad Chaudhurl is played by Hugh Griffith and his two sons by Basil Jones and Richard Bebb
