Yuri Ahronovitch was born In 1932 in Leningrad, and studied conducting at the Conservatoire there under Kurt Sanderling and Nathan Rachlin. From 1964 to 1972 he was chief conductor of the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. He made his British debut at the Royal Opera House. Covent Garden, last winter, conducting Boris Godunov.
