Before the Event: Pigeon Racing

on BBC One London

Presented by Anne Nightingale

At this moment there is probably a racing pigeon flying overhead at around 50 mph. This year literally millions of pigeons will take part in this unseen sport in the sky.
Anne Nightingale joins the Tidenham and District fanciers (whose club secretary Derek Fishwick, 16, copes with the complex calculation of time and distance flown) and some of the boys from the Lawrence Weston School in Bristol as they prepare for a race. Last year a bird bred by the boys came second from Lerwick (out of J.200 birds flown) beating all the Welsh birds home by a day.
