Mozart's opera tells a tale of subterfuge, sexual jealousy and revenge (concocted by Lorenzo da Ponte from Beaumarchais's play) about two couples: the Count and Countess Almaviva, unhappy in their marriage; and Figaro and Susanna on the brink of marital bliss - until the Count tries to cancel the wedding because of his feelings for Susanna.
