With Richard Baker. John Bunyan was the son of an itinerant tinker and suffered from guilt and a fear of damnation, with which he grappled for years. One result of this monumental inner struggle was The Pilgrim's Progess, whose vibrant, imaginative and highly accessible character appealed to all social classes and established Bunyan as something of a hero.
