Man of Action

on BBC Radio 3

Sir Basil Spence OM, the architect, presents a personal choice of records which have played a part in his life. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos were a source of inspiration to him when he was designing Coventry Cathedral, and in the programme he includes the third of them. His childhood in India is recalled with a Raga. Among the artists he chooses are MARIA CALLAS in the third act of Tosca and ARTUR RUBINSTEIN playing a Chopin nocturne.
