The island of Crete was a German stronghold. The Cretan guerillas were active, enemy reprisals were savage. Crete was a dangerous place to visit. However, Major I.W.S. Moss and Major Patrick Leigh-Fermor decided to visit the island, kidnap the German general and remove him to British custody in the Middle East.
