On their wayto Portsmouth, Nicholas and Smike meet Mr. Vincent Crummies, « theatrical manager, who persuades them do join his company. The next day M the theatre Nicholas meets Mrs. Crummies and her daughter, The Infant Phenomenon, as well as Miss Sneveilicci, Mr. Folair, and Mr. LenviHe.
Nicholas is alt work on his first play and teaching Smike his part, when he is interrupted by Mr. Lillyvick whom he met at the Kenwigs’. Nicholas learns from him that he is about to marry Miss Henrietta Petowker, of the Theatre Royal, Drury
Lane, who has just joined the Company. Shortly after, Nicholas makes his first appearance on the stage.
