Composer of the Week John Adams

on BBC Radio 3

The main work in today's programme, Harmonielehre (1985), was composed after a creative crisis in the composer's life, and its three movements were inspired respectively by a dream about a flying ocean tanker, by the Arthurian legend of King Anfortas, and by the medieval theologian Meister Eckhardt. Alwynne Pritchard introduces the music in conversation with the composer.
