World University Service (formerly known as ' International Student Service ') was formed in 1920 to assist. students and lecturers in need. With headquarters in Geneva, and with national committees in nearly forty countries, the Service, which is dependent entirely on voluntary contributions, now raises and spends about £ 450,000 each year.
Help is given in Britain and abroad to tuberculous and refugee students and lecturers, and financial aid is granted to students of suitable ability who encounter unforeseen hardships. In war-devastated and under-developed countries World University Service provides food, clothing, medicines, and text-books to needy students.
