UNDER THE SEA by JULES VERNE freely adapted as a serial in eight parts by, Lance Sieveking
Part 2
It is July 6, 1866. For many months the entire world has been puzzled by strange reports of ships having been chased and attacked by an enormous Thing. The Marine Department in Washington has fitted out a fast frigate to scour the oceans and kill the monster, and has invited the French naturalist, Professor Aronnax, to go with the expedition.
Off the coast of Japan the Thing is sighted, immense and luminous, and as it rams the ship with its great tusks the Professor is swept into the sea.
