by Lady Eve Balfour
Lord Balfour-the statesman and philosopher, better known as A. J. Balfour -kept open house in his home at Whittingehame in the Scottish Lowlands for a crowd of young nephews and nieces. One of these was Lady Eve Balfour, who here presents a picture of A J. Balfour as a beloved uncle, a guide, philosopher, and friend to the young, and an honoured host to many of the great men of his time.
