Wimbledon 88

on BBC One London

Lawn Tennis Championships from the All England Club The ladies' championship, which is always the feature of the second afternoon at
Wimbledon, will again provide a platform for the game's two greatest players. The first is the champion MARTINA NAVRATILOVA , holder of eight singles titles, including the last six in a row. On the Wimbledon grass, which suits her style, she has lost only two singles out of her last 68 matches.
But this may be the year that STEFFI GRAF, just 19, wins for the first time. The West
German is now ranked number one in the world, and will have learnt much from defeat in last year's final.
Among the supporting cast is the talented GABRIELA
SABATINI, a quarter-finalist last year, while the American CHRIS EVERT will receive an emotional welcome in what may be her last appearance at the Championships.
HARRY CARPENTER introduces the live coverage, and provides news and results from all today's matches.
