Hearts of Gold

on BBC One London

Esther Rantzen and co-presenters, Carol Smillie and Mickey Hutton present another in the series that gives the Hearts of Gold Award to unsung heroes and heroines from all over the UK who have shown outstanding bravery and dedication.

This week's programme features the story of a couple who, six years ago, adopted a baby who was so mentally and physically impaired that the experts said he would only live a matter of months. Having sold their home and business to finance his care, the couple now spend much of their time in Budapest where the child is receiving treatment. Teachers, other parents in a similar position and local prisoners pay tribute to the courageous pair.
