Born in Liverpool, Stephen Wearing was a brilliant student of the Royal Manchester College of Music, winning the Chappell Gold Medal for pianoforte playing in 1922, and the Halle Scholarship a year later. He first played in London in 1923 at a Patrop's Fund Concert conducted by Adrian Boult. Since then he has played on most of the important concert platforms throughout the British Isles, and was one of the- first pianists to broadcast from the original Manchester Station.
