Morning Performance

on BBC Radio 3

Artist in Focus: Stephen Kovacevich
It was the pianist's radical interpretation of the music of Beethoven which so electrified the audience at his Wigmore
Hall debut in 1961. Since then Kovacevich has continued to explore the extraordinary musical and technical challenges presented in Beethoven's sonatas to great critical acclaim. Kovacevich discusses these challenges with Petroc Trelawny as they listen to BBC Archive recordings spanning three decades -from an early studio session to his 1999 Edinburgh International Festival recital.
Beethoven Six Bagatelles, Op 126(1999); Sonata in D minor, Op 31 No 2(1969); Sonata in Eflat, Op 31 No 3 (1988); Sonata in E, Op 109(1978)
