Tonight's concert opens with a hallucinatory micro-tonal work for two groups of strings by the eminent Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti, who died last month. This is followed by a rare opportunity to hear the original version of Schumann's Fourth Symphony, the version preferred by his great friend and champion, Brahms, whose popular concerto rounds off the evening. Presented by Fiona Talkington.
