On 2 July 1988, a Wimbledon era was ended. In the Ladies' Final Martina Navratilova , winner of eight singles titles, including six in succession, was despatched by Steffi Graf. Now Graf, who went on to complete the Grand Slam and win a gold medal in Seoul, is the overwhelming favourite to win again. Only
Navratilova, and Gabriela Sabatini, have any sort of record against her.
