In 1870 Sergei Nechaev , a young fanatic described by Lenin as the first 'real' Communist, turned up at the Swiss home of Prince Michael Bakunin , at that time considered to be the most famous Russian revolutionary at liberty. Bakunin, content to dream of revolution and write the odd radical pamphlet, is brought face to face with an advocate of mass terror.
