After studying organ, piano, and viola, Sydney Gustard became a cinema organist at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1919. (He was born at Tynemouth.) After a short period in London, he went to Liverpool in 1927. Gustard made his first gramophone records in 1929 and gave his first broadcast, from Chester, in Sepjember, 1932. He has long been one of radio's most popular organists.
