Today voters in England and Wales go to the polls in elections for more than
12,000 councillors in 369 district councils. David Dimbleby presents live coverage of the results, with comment from leading politicians and the BBC's political editor, John Cole. Peter Snow translates the council results into a national picture, and expert analysis of the results this year will give early indications of what verdict the voters have passed on the main political parties. At 11.30pm, 12.30am, and 1.30am, each region has analysis of its own results in what could be the last real test of public opinion before the general election.
