Paul Gambaccini and Fran Morrison visit the historic city of Chichester to capture the essence of the festivities going on throughout this week and next.
The Chichester Festivities started as a celebration of the 900th Anniversary of the Cathedral in 1975 and have continued to flourish ever since. The Cathedral itself is used extensively throughout the Festival and the young pianist Bernard d'Ascoli performs in this classic setting.
Music of a different kind is supplied by folk violinist David Swarbrick and guitarist Simon Nichol, and the early music Consort of Twelve play a work by the Dutch composer Hallendaal.
The Chichester Festival Theatre presents Cavell, a new play by Keith Baxter, and the programme includes an extract with Joan Plowright in the title role.
These artists, and many more, give a flavour of the excitement and talent to be found at the Chichester Festivities this year.
