Celebrating Salzburg
Concluding the series in which
Richard Osborne explores the story of the Salzburg Festival. 6: The Nineties
Karajan's successor as artistic director was Gerard Mortier , who has made efforts to institute radical new policies. An often controversial emphasis on contemporary music - with a new, biennial festival within a festival, Zeitfluss - radical operatic productions, and residencies by orchestras and companies from outside the German-speaking community have gone hand in hand with a continuing commitment to some of the festival's more traditional fare.
With contributions from Gerard
Mortier, Financial Director
Hans Landesmann , Markus Hinterhauser of Zeitfluss, critics, and Count Johannes Walderdorff , owner of the Goldener Hirsch hotel.
Producer David Gallagher
