The Late Film: The Barefoot Contessa

on BBC One London

starring
Humphrey Bogart , Ava Gardner with Edmond O'Brien , Rossano Brazzi
Harry Dawes , a fading Hollywood director, manages to make a star of the flamenco dancer he discovers in a seedy Madrid club. Maria, however, soon tires of the tinsel world she has conquered.
Bogie gives a remarkable performance as the cynical, down-at-heel director, and Ava Gardner is the barefoot dancer. Edmond O'Brien won an Oscar for best supporting actor as the high-powered press agent.
