In 1964, Elizabeth Bowen introduced and read from her novel-in-progress, a typically sharp comedy of manners about friendship.
8.25 Solo piano music by the mysterious Russian composer Alexei Stanchinsky , including his second sonata; and by his contemporary Stravinsky, including some unpublished, early miniatures. The concert also includes the first broadcast of a song-cycle by Jonathan Powell called The Silver Age, and ends with four songs by Rachmaninov.
