8.20 Twenty Minutes: Bath and the World's First Geological Map
Bath is known for its Georgian houses and Roman spa, but another claim to fame is as the site of the first truly systematic geological map - which presented a new view of the world by charting the rocks beneath the soil and set the style for modern geological maps. Geologist Richard Corfield walks the landscape depicted on the map in search of its maker, William Smith, who in 1799 saw an entire history of the earth in the hills around Bath.
