The five-part Forbidden Shostakovich season begins with a Bolshoi production of The Bolt, a ballet which, in 1931, was withdrawn from the stage after one performance, a consequence of the crackdown on cultural works deemed aberrant by Stalin. Pavel Sorokin conducts the orchestra and ballet of the Bolshoi. The season continues next Saturday.
