Shogun: 3

on BBC One London

by James Clavell

A serial in five parts inspired by the true story of Will Adams, an Elizabethan sailor who became the only non-Japanese Samurai.
Starring Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune, Yoko Shimada and Alan Badel

English navigator John Blackthorne has been elevated to the rank of hatamoto, trusted retainer to Toranaga, a powerful warlord. He finds himself drawn to Japan's culture with its doctrine of karma, but his European soul can still be outraged by what seem to him to be acts of barbarism. Now he is returned to Anjiro to learn Japanese under the instruction of Lady Mariko Buntaro. He must do so within six months or the village will be burned and its people crucified...
