for two pianists, by Roger Smalley
Introduced by him and played by him and STEPHEN SAVAGE
' So I thought it wouldn't be inappropriate to try and add another large-scale work to a not overburdened repertoire-more useful than writing another symphony or string quartet, for example. It plays uninterruptedly for just over 45 minutes, and is thus by a short head my largest piece to date. The title is to emphasise that the work was conceived very much in terms of a two-sided discussion - not an argument-which begins with a few very simpte ideas and then proceeds to extend, develop and elaborate them in a quite complex way, until at the very end unanimity is finally achieved - the " accord ". of the title.'
