The Conquest of Everest

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the conquest of Mount Everest.
At 11.30 am on 29 May 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing reached the summit of Everest-the first men ever to scale the world's highest peak.
A few days later, news of the success of the British expedition led by Sir John Hunt reached London - on Coronation Day.
